
Bonga Mokoena is Chief Executive Officer of BDO South Africa, where he leads one of the country’s leading audit, tax and advisory firms. Appointed in 2022 as its first African black CEO, he is focused on reinforcing BDO’s role as a trusted leader in the professional services market, advancing audit quality, client excellence and the quality of financial and integrated reporting that strengthens confidence in business, capital markets and South Africa’s broader economic ecosystem.
He serves on the BDO Global CEO Forum, contributing to the firm’s global strategic agenda and advancing its role across the African continent.
His leadership is grounded in the belief that professional services firms play a critical role in strengthening the systems that support transparency, accountability, investment and inclusive economic growth. Under his leadership, BDO South Africa is advancing a strategy centred on quality, transformation and measurable impact, with a higher purpose of elevating people, business and society.
Bonga brings more than two decades of executive leadership experience across South Africa’s listed financial services sector, institutional investments and the public sector, including leading complex institutional businesses in South Africa and across Africa. This breadth of experience gives him a distinctive perspective on capital, governance and the intersection between public and private sector delivery.
Bonga plays an active role in shaping South Africa’s and Africa’s business and governance landscape. He has been re-appointed to the board of Business Leadership South Africa for a second term; and re-appointed to chair its Audit and Risk Sub-Committee. He also serves as Deputy Chair of the SAICA Senior Partners’ Forum and as a non-executive member of the National Council of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
